Jared Fogle
Subway Spokesman
October 20, 2005
While working at the Blue Tusk on a Friday night, I was standing at the front door checking ID's like I normally do. A group of people came in and I commented that one of them looked just like Jared, the guy from the Subway commercials. You know the ones: " Hi. I'm Jared. I used to be fat, but after eating low fat Subway Subs and walking, I'm now half the man I used to be." A woman that was walking in behind them informed me that it was, in fact, Jared Fogle.
He ordered a drink and sat near the end of the bar. People walked up and said hi to him and asked for autographs. After the wave of people cleared away and Jared had a moment to breathe, my friend Woody and I walked over and introduced ourselves and asked if we could get a few photos. I explained that when I wasn't bouncing, I did a website and would like to put photo of him and me on it. He was happy to oblige. After the photos, I explained what my site was about and gave him a button. I asked him what brought him to Syracuse. He was in the 'Cuse to speak in front of a group of cafeteria workers about nutrition. I thanked him for his time and wished him a great night. I told him that if he had any problems with anyone to just get me and I would take care of it.
I went to the back door to show Vinny, my other bouncer, the photo. When I got there, he was talking to my friend Mike. I showed Mike the picture and he whipped out his wallet. From it he pulled a Subway Sub Club card. It was autographed by Jared. I was floored. Of all the things that he could sign, that was the best one. I was so jealous. And my own Sub club card was at home. I wanted to get in on that action so I started acting like Monty Hall on the old Let's Make A Deal game. I walked up to everyone I knew and asked if they had a Subway card in their wallet.
I told them that if they did, I would give them two dollars for it. A cutomer on his way into the bar heard me asking and told me he had a Subway card. I gave him the two dollars and he gave me the card. I then told him why I wanted it. He didn't believe me until he looked in the door and saw Jared standing next to the Simpsons Pinball game. I thanked him again. After he was inside, I walked back over to Jared, appologized for bothering him again, and asked if he would sign the card. He said it was no problem and put his autograph across the front. He looked at the back and saw that the card was full. He asked if I planned on turning it in for the free six inch sub and I told him no. I thanked him again and told him to have a good time.
About ten minutes later, Vinny came over and asked me to take a photo of him and Jared. I agreed to take his photo. We walked over, and Vinny got his photo with his arm around Jared. As he was about to leave, he looked at Jared and said, " Hey, thanks for the photo. I'll come back over in a few minutes and maybe we can do a few more photos... maybe a few nude ones too." I couldn't believe he said that and neither could Jared. The look of shock on his face was priceless. Then Vinny laughed and so did Jared, although it sounded like a nervous laugh. I just hung my head in shock and disbelief.
Jared and his friend stayed for about another half hour and then took off. I wished him luck on his speech and said good night.
